Russia extends suspension of flights to UK until middle of March

Russia extended today the suspension of flights with the United Kingdom until middle of March due to the new strain of covid-19, the Russian pandemic operational center said today.

"The operational body to prevent the import and spread of the new coronavirus in Russia has decided to prolong the suspension of flights with the United Kingdom. To ensure protection of public health, restrictions were extended until 23:59 local time (20:59 GMT) on March 16", the agency said.

Russia suspended flights to the United Kingdom on December 22, when British scientists said the new strain was accelerating transmission of the new coronavirus by 70% and appeared to be responsible for an increase in infections in London and in several southeastern counties and east of England.

In Russia, before the New Year, the presence of the British strain was detected in a patient, who has already recovered, according to Interfax.
